What will happen in the year 2012?

Can you tell us what will happen, or if anything will happen to the Earth, time itself and all of humanity in the year 2012, at the end of the Mayan Calender. A lot of people talk of a great change which will take place, yet I often wonder if this is so, or if it's just a time when the Mayan calender simply expires.
